METACRIME AND THE NEED FOR A METAVERSE POLICE PRESENCE
The rise of virtual reality has paved the way for incredible advancement of technology, while this space continues to provide opportunities it has also created a wave of challenges that need to be dealt with. One of these challenges is the emergence of metacrime, a category of crime unique to the metaverse. In a bid to tackle the rise in metacrime, Interpol has suggested the creation of virtual metaverse police stations. These virtual reality spaces aim to provide services akin to physical police stations, such as crime reporting, complaint filings, and hosting community meetings. Interpol’s report sheds light on the urgent need for law enforcement agencies to establish a metaverse police presence.
